Havana Club Cocktail Grand Prix

Cocktail-On-Sea…

The Havana Club Cocktail Grand Prix is a prestigious bi-annual global bartending competition.  TheFloatingRumShack.com was able attend the last global finals in Havana, Cuba back in 2012 (where we had an amazing rummy-time click here & here for details) and resolved to keep a closer eye on the build up to the 2014 event which will be held later in June.  I couldn’t get along to the UK regionals heats, but the finals proved to be something quite special.

Home Made Spiced Rum

Home Made Spiced Rum

Add a Seasonal Slant to Your Favourite Rum?

There are some great spiced rum’s out there and we’ve got quite a few different expressions in the collection, but why is it that I don’t really drink a lot of spiced rum?  Most spiced rums are so strongly flavoured that you can’t really taste the rum anyway, which really defeats the object for me.  We really like rum and we like to taste the rum.  When we drink a cocktail made with rum, we look to ensure that the character of the rum comes though.

Harewood House Rum Auction

That’s Some Seriously Old Rum…

Ian Burrell, Global Rum Ambassador, has further expanded his portfolio by acquiring two of the world's oldest bottles of rum. Taking place a few days ago at London's famous auction house Christie's, Ian became the proud owner of these exceptionally rare antiquities that were discovered at Harewood House in 2011, hidden amongst the dust and cobwebs deep within the cellar.

2014 Global Rum Festivals

Rummy Travels...

The balance between holiday allocation at work, an appropriate travel budget and the dream destination is something we’ve been wrestling with at TheFloatingRumShack.com for years. But I think that having some information is a good starting point and so by collating a list of events we know (for sure) are going ahead really helps the process.  We will be looking to add others as we get confirmation of dates and locations.  The list isn’t restricted to rum – cocktails and other spirit events included where appropriate.

Rhum Fest Paris 2014

Rhum Fest Paris 2014

Paris in the Spring, (Rum) Love is in the air…

6th & 7th April 2014

The 2014 Rhum Fest in Paris promises to be a beautifully staged event. Set in the Parc Floral de Paris, I get the impression that the event will aim to ‘virtually’ transport the visitor to the verdant and lush surrounding of a sugarcane plantation in the tropics.
